El Pollo Loco, a Mexican grilled chicken fast food restaurant chain that’s very popular on the West Coast, has finally made it to Hampton Roads! The restaurant we visited was new and hospital clean. I was surprised to find the salsa bar that was very neat and the ingredients weren’t mixed together inadvertently. Another thing to mention was the staff at the Norfolk location were very nice, and not at all like your stereotypical fast food workers.
Pictured above is the Original Pollo Bowl and a grilled chicken leg. The Pollo Bowl consists of pinto beans, rice, cilantro, grilled chicken and fresh salsa. The freshness of the ingredients really shined through this dish. It didn’t feel heavy or greasy at all.
The chicken drumstick was good, but it didn’t blow me away. I’d definitely consider giving it another chance though!
